January 2009

I am pleased that MVi's 2009 Users' Conference April 6-9 will offer a variety of educational opportunities for those in attendance. Laserfiche 8 has tremendous functionality and MVi will provide valuable instruction and training with regards to new features along with tips about the upgrade and conversion process. Laserfiche Workflow 8 and Quick Fields 8 add powerful capabilities that simplify your work. If you are unfamiliar with these products, now is the time to learn. If you are familiar with version 7 of these products you should be in attendance to learn about version 8 - there are vast improvements and the MVi conference instruction will shortcut your learning curve.
As many of you know, MVi's product suite complements Laserfiche providing seamless integrations with 3rd party applications. Those of you using Hotkey, Check 21 Branch & Teller Capture, Receipt Capture, Document Capture, Laser Check Capture, Report Capture and e-View can attest to improved efficiencies. You can learn more about any or all of these powerful applications at the April conference. With e-View, for example, credit union members can access checks, receipts, loans, statements and other personal information archived in Laserfiche. This application is a gem that many of you will see for the first time at the conference.
Come and join us this April in Park City, Utah. I understand that budgets are a concern. Make the investment to improve yourself and your business. This educational experience will enlighten your mind and refresh your imagination. You will share experiences and knowledge with peers who will do the same with you and discover new ways to use the tools at your disposal.
Thank you for allowing MVi to serve you.
Sincerely,
Bill Poulter

When it comes to serving the underserved, Mission SF FCU is the expert. Mission SF FCU, ($8.6 million; 1,894 members; San Francisco, CA) has been servicing low to moderate-income communities since 1971. About eleven years ago, the credit union incorporated a program for youth called the Youth Credit Union Program (YCUP). The YCUP is California's first ever youth-run credit union program offering kids ages 6-18 leadership, managerial, and job development skills.
The program focuses on providing employment and educational opportunities to the youth that live in under-served communities surrounding the bay area including the Mission, Excelsior, Bay View, Visitation Valley, and South of Market districts.
Youth of low-income families and mixed ethnicities run and operate the branch office, providing services to other youth members. "YCUP is unique in the sense that it is one of two programs like this in the western United Sates" says Salvador Duran, CEO of Mission SF FCU.
"It is designed to give kids the opportunity to learn fiscal responsibility and how financial institutions operate" he adds. As long as the kids are old enough to count money, they are able to be involved in some of the branch operations. Some of the branch tellers are as young as twelve years in age. The branch manager, usually older (closer to 18) and more experienced, oversees operations and verifies the tellers' work.

With the new year here, it is is important to remember to set up volumes for 2009 (if you haven't already done so). There are three procedures we suggest to follow that will help to keep your database organized:- Create a New DAILY volume. If you are scanning checks and receipts then you should be scanning these into a DAILY volume that is created for each year. The name of the volume should be DAILY2008, DAILY2009, etc. corresponding to the current year.
- Create a New Receipt volume. If you have RCS (MVI Receipt Capture), then your receipts are stored in a RECEIPT volume. It is suggested that you create a new RECEIPT volume for each year.
- Create New Folders for each of the months in the new year in the "Daily Work" folder.
Every January, MVi employees attend the Laserfiche Institute Conference. This year's focus was on Laserfiche 8 suite, Workflow, and Quickfields. At the conference, there are classes on each Laserfiche product that are instructed by the Laserfiche development team; they offer classes for beginning and advanced VARs (Value Added Resellers). "I enjoyed a number of classes at this years' Laserfiche conference. The new features in Workflow and Quickfields 8 will open many doors and make our customers' needs easily achievable." Says Alex McBride, MVi support technician. Aaron Morrison, another MVi support technician, reflects on his experience at the conference. "It is a great way for our technicians to meet the development team and ask them questions directly to see what the future holds for Laserfiche products. I felt like the Laserfiche developers were excellent at giving detailed information on the architecture of Laserfiche 8. It was exciting to learn about the integration enhancements they have made."
The conference also gives MVi an opportunity to meet with key Laserfiche staff to help them establish goals for the year. This year and years past, MVi was recognized as a top VAR at their Winners Circle banquet.
